QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)

You can't teach in Britain without QTS.

Anyone who wants to teach in a state-maintained school in England or Wales needs to achieve QTS. It is possible to be employed as an unqualified teacher, but you will be expected to work towards QTS at the same time.

You may already have been teaching for some time, perhaps in the independent sector, or even overseas. Regardless of any such experience, you will still need QTS before you can teach in a state-maintained school.
