Lego |
| Everybody loves Lego. Great for small kids, wonderful for big kids. We know an architect who does his rough layouts in Lego. For good imaginative play look to acquire a big big box of standard rectangluar bricks with a few wheels, windows and roof tiles. This box of bricks can be a castle in the morning and a space ship after lunch. Add to your 'basic' kit from time to time but always aim for bricks which can be used in a variety of projects. There are small kits which make up into a robot or racing car or whatever, but when a child has made their model the bricks are not easily recycled into the child's next creation of their own. Look at the building blocks and see the underlying mathematics. Appreciate that a child must come to some sort of understanding about the relative length of a standard brick and a smaller brick, and work out how they will fit together. Tip: When the bricks get grubby (and they will) put them in a pillow case, sew it shut and pop it in the washing machine. Some washing powder, low temperature and no spin. |
