The Jolly Postman (extended)

A delightful book:

The Jolly Postman goes from home to home in a fairy-tale kingdom, delivering letters to Goldilocks, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and other well-known characters. The pages of the book are actual envelopes that house real letters. Letters include Goldilocks apologizing to the Three Bears and Jack thanking the Giant for the gold.

When you've read it a million times with young children and they've carefully taken the tiny letters out of the tiny envelopes it's time to move on.

The book makes an excellent model for pupils to write 'The Jolly Postman, Part Two'. With guidance they can select their own favourite characters, and write little letters from one character to another. And then write the narrative as the postman goes around the neighbourhood with their letters.

Even young pupils will come up with great ideas and will be enthusiastic about this project.
