Circle Time

Circle time is a group activity in which any number of people sit down together with the purpose of furthering understanding of themselves and of one another.

Using the circle is one of those ideas that comes naturally to teachers as a way of building bridges and facilitating dialogue between pupils and teachers, and between pupils themselves. Fortunately, a raised awareness of circle time is helping it to gain a higher priority now in both primary and secondary schools.

The main principles of circle time are as follows:
• Circle time is a space within the school curriculum into which each person comes with unconditional acceptance.
• It is not the place for judgement or coercion.
• It provides an opportunity to learn and explore through the discussion of experiences and individuality.
